It never ceases to amaze me just what is acceptable in technology journalism these days. There is so much that rides on pure rumors and speculation about the coming products. Why is it that we put so much weight on the rumors? I don’t think that in any other area we would put so much weight on pure speculation. How does tech journalism get a pass on this?
I know the quality of other journalism is getting lower these days, but it hasn’t stooped to basing most of the stories on pure speculation.
I guess it just bothers me every time there is about to be an announcement from one of the major tech companies. It pains me that an entire industry is based on speculation and not factual reporting. We’ve become a society where rumor rules and facts play second fiddle. Then there is the complaining and disappointment when they don’t get what they though they were going to.
